The Project:

The Art of Rap was the critically acclaimed documentary on the birth of Hip Hop music, directed by Ice T and featuring artists such as Run DMC, Kanye West, Eminem, Nas, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre, Mos Def and a who's who of the rap world. The film was a stand out feature at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and was an anchor release for Indomina, who acquired the film for global distribution.

 

Indomina Media was a boutique indy film studio and vertical, based in LA with a major production facility and sound stages in the Dominican Republic in partnership with Pinewood Studios.

Our Role:

  • Bruce Kirkland via Tsunami Entertainment headed up acquisitions, marketing, distribution, business affairs and international sales for Indomina, overseeing an internal staff of 16.
  • Negotiated a long term US distribution deal with Vivendi for all rights excluding theatrical, which were handled in-house
  • Responsible for the release of over 30 plus feature films over a 3 year period, including theatrical, home entertainment, digital, TV sales, VOD and ancillary markets
  • Acquired and released many award winning features, including Imposter (Cannes), Detective Dee (Tribecca), Luv (Sundance), True Legend, Filly Brown (Sundance), Flying Swords of the Dragon Gate, Holy Motors (Cannes) and Body Guards and Assassins
  • Indomina was known for its innovative marketing - for example, Tsunami utilized its experience in music to market and promote The Art of Rap. The film opened on 150 screens and was promoted by urban music specialists on hip hop radio stations and urban music media.
